Fleeing Stelae
11 January – 8 February 1992

Throughout her life, Isolde Mara always stood in the shadow of her great brother Wolf Vostell. The reason was that she never wanted to give the impression of riding in the “wake” of a great artist. Her art reflects this whole problem. Her continuous work in the background was the reason for the foundation to honour this artist with an exhibition.
The exhibition consisted mainly of sculptures and a few drawings. Polyester bodies over tangled wire frames, coated in black paint, are Mara’s menacing works. These “Fleeing Stelae” (“Flüchtende Stelen”) were then impressively presented in the various rooms of the Löwenpalais.
The opening speech was given by the renowned art historian Dr Hammer, who is chair of the Association of Berlin Artists.
The cost to the foundation for this exhibition was approximately DM 600 as a contribution towards the printing of the cards.
