Blue Rooms / Boulevard I + II

“Blue Rooms, Boulevard” (“Blaue Zimmer, Boulevard”) was staged at the Löwenpalais in two parts. The word “staging” is particularly apt here, since Gerald Uhlig (36) comes from the theatre, where he learned his craft for several years under Peter Zadek at the Hamburger Schauspielhaus.
Uhlig, however, wants more than to make theatre. Thanks to his many talents, he creates objects, composes sound collages and writes texts. Uhlig’s main concern is to create spaces. Through light, music, objects and performers, vivid images arise that convey unambiguous statements to the viewer. From coming to terms with one’s own personality to the destruction of the environment, he deals with all the subjects that move him emotionally.
This exhibition made a particular impression on Berlin’s art world, and I believe that, through the new form of presentation, we made a statement.
The costs for the actors were covered entirely by donations made directly to the performers. Apart from that, we had around DM 2,500 in mailing costs, although for one letter enclosed with the invitation we received DM 750 in donations.
Supporting Gerald Uhlig through exhibitions in our house makes particular sense, since he is a talent who, given sufficient publicity, will truly have turned the corner within the next few years.
