Artist in Residence
Living and studio space at the Löwenpalais for young artists in every discipline – for three to twelve months.
The Stiftung Starke supports young, emerging artists in every discipline. At the Löwenpalais they find the calm and the space to concentrate fully on their work and to develop their own artistic language. The foundation accompanies them along the way and encourages exchange among the residents.
Who can apply
Artists from Germany and abroad may apply up to the age of 38. Applications are accepted throughout the year. Residencies are awarded by an independent jury.
Guest apartments
Guest apartments are also available for shorter stays by established artists.
Costs
The foundation does not provide financial grants. The studios are subsidised by the foundation, and residents cover the energy costs of their rooms. In some cases, sponsors and patrons award scholarships.
The foundation’s projects are accompanied academically by international curators.

Who can apply?
Artists in every discipline up to the age of 38.
Is there financial support?
No, the foundation does not provide financial grants. The studios are subsidised by the foundation, and residents pay a contribution towards energy costs, which depends on current market prices. In some cases, sponsors and patrons award scholarships.
Which disciplines does the foundation support?
All artistic disciplines: painting and sculpture, architecture and design, music and composition, performance, installation, conceptual art, literature and new media.
How long is a residency?
A residency lasts three to twelve months.
What does the residency include?
Free accommodation and studio space in the residency rooms and – if the quality of the work allows – the opportunity of an exhibition at the Löwenpalais, either solo or in a group.
Which documents do I need?
Please submit the following documents digitally in German or English:
- the completed application form
- a letter of motivation describing and explaining your project during the residency (no more than two A4 pages)
- an artistic CV
- formal documents (proof of address, identity card, or passport for applicants from outside the EU)
- a cost plan showing that you can finance your stay at the Löwenpalais yourself
Are there deadlines?
No. Applications are welcome at any time.
How are residents selected?
Residencies are awarded by an independent jury. Every applicant is informed in writing. No reasons are given for decisions.
