Visitors’ School
6 March – 5 April 1992

The exhibition “Visitors’ School” (“Besucherschule”) presents young artists between the ages of 28 and 35 who had been awarded scholarships at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien.
With this exhibition the foundation presents a purely conceptual exhibition for the first time. The title is based on an art action by the art historian Bazon Brock, who set up a visitors’ school at a documenta exhibition in Kassel in order to bring contemporary art closer to visitors through various art actions.
The exhibition at the Löwenpalais addresses the problem of being a child in today’s society. Meyer realises this by setting up a standing desk, behind which hang a picture of a child and one of a horse. The artist duo Dellbrügge/De Moll arrange children’s chairs in strict formation and hang slates bearing biological facts in the background. Höller provokes with his child trap “Come, Little One, There’s a Treat” (“Komm Kleines, gibt was Feines”), propping up an upturned playpen on a peg, so that the trap snaps shut when the toy is grabbed.
The avant-garde curator Christoph Tannert supported the exhibition with a text and with the installation.
With the exception of the insurance, the exhibition was fully sponsored by the Künstlerhaus Bethanien.
Press information was sent to about 60 journalists.
