Paintings
Dirk Sommer
10 March – 30 April 1994

The large-format easel paintings, complemented by drawings and objects by this versatile artist, looked superb in the windows of the arcade. Dirk Sommer, a master student of Hödicke and co-founder of the self-help gallery GARAGE, received, among other awards, the 1986 New York scholarship PS1 from the Berlin Senate for Cultural Affairs. Sommer has had major solo and group exhibitions, including in St Petersburg and Moscow. He is also co-founder of the Dirty Windows Gallery in the Kurfürstendamm underground station, whose art actions have repeatedly caused a sensation.
The paintings exhibited by the Stiftung Starke feature motifs from the animal and plant kingdoms, painted in the manner of the Old Masters.
