An exhibition project by the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Beijing, the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, the Freie Universität Berlin, the Institut für Kultur und Medienwirtschaft (IKMW) Berlin and the Kunststiftung Starke, Berlin.

For two weeks the Löwenpalais becomes a “Timehouse”, in which a student “Curatorial Team” from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing has set out in search of its present. In five themed rooms (“Transition”, “Underground”, “Crisis & Survival”, “Repair and Healing”, “Dreams”), the worldviews and attitudes to life of the much-cited “Generation Z” are reflected in a range of artistic positions and formats, from video, installation, photographs and posters to object art. Forty-eight artists have been invited, most of them young and from China, together with international emerging artists from the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. In both its genesis and its realisation, this exhibition is an experiment of a special kind in post-pandemic times: “Distance Curating” under academic guidance and supervision across more than 10,000 km. Teams, artists and a venue that none of them has ever physically encountered; only the team from the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and the university lecturers have been present in person. For the first time in this German-Chinese production, the entire Löwenpalais is used, from the lounge and the cellar to the three traditional exhibition rooms. A booklet will be published to accompany the exhibition, containing the “making of” and the list of artists.
