About the exhibition:
For her solo show at the Stiftung Starke Berlin, Zora Volantes is developing new luminous Second Skin sculptures and paintings.
Second Skin is an ongoing project based on the concept that the artist’s paper textures and colours
serve “as a second skin”, from which she builds, among other things, luminous sculptures.
Alongside the new luminous sculptures, the performance film Bounty Hunter will also be presented,
which Zora Volantes developed for Art Basel Miami Beach last year.
After leaving school, Zora Volantes studied German studies, film and theatre studies at the Freie Universität in Berlin.
In 1994 she began studying sculpture at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. In 1995 she studied on an Erasmus scholarship
with Michelangelo Pistoletto in Vienna, with Katharina Sieverding at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin and, from 1996, with Rebecca Horn.
In 2000 she became a master student of Rebecca Horn.
Zora Volantes has received numerous awards and scholarships, including a DAAD scholarship for London,
the young talent promotion scholarship of the Universität der Künste Berlin and a scholarship from the Kulturakademie Tarabya, Istanbul.
In her early artistic work, space and spatial installation are addressed.
From 2000 onwards, performance and sculpture moved increasingly to the foreground of her work as means of artistic expression.
The human being in confrontation with his or her environment, adaptation or provocation – with skin sculptures or body paintings she breaks new ground in her art, with the effect of colour, light and darkness each playing a role.
We look forward to seeing you,
Stiftung Starke and Zora Volantes
