Ready Founded

The thirty-nine-year-old Sewz studied photography at university in Leipzig. Since the early 1980s he has been recording the world of products of the former GDR. This work has by now become a document of a vanished era. He also combines his photographs with physical everyday products. For this work he assembled a collection of GDR goods and packaging, which are unique pieces of history. On the occasion of the exhibition at the Kempinski Plaza, Sewz presented a new medium – the “SHALLOWS”: the video clip as easel painting. The artist “portrayed” visitors with a video camera so that they would later appear in a video loop on flat electroluminescent screens. These screens can then be hung on the wall like a (moving) picture.
