– a light, sound and video installation by Matthias Deumlich.
The Berlin-based object and installation artist, a master-class student of Rebecca Horn, most recently showed his light-and-sound installation “The Brittle Flood” (“Die spröde Flut”) in the reopening exhibition almost done at the Stiftung Starke in 2000.
Now the Stiftung Starke presents Matthias Deumlich in a solo exhibition of sound and video works created over the past two years. Alongside his latest video tables, the bread-bread buoys (“Brotbrotbojen”) shown at “Fractals III” (“Fraktale III”) in the Reichstag underground station will be on view in modified form, together with a Russian-bread typewriter (“Russischbrotschreibmaschine”). At the centre of the exhibition stands a six-metre-long sound and light table created especially for the Garden Hall of the Löwenpalais, at which on special evenings during the run of the exhibition various germansushi dinners will take place, with guest speakers expected including the stage designer and opera director Karl Ernst Herrmann. In the tension between floating bread buoys fitted with white flags and the large glass chandelier of the Garden Hall, the table is covered with projections of water-lily leaves and the sound of constant rain – the image that arises from projections, reflections and sound objects on and above the table shimmers, in gentle movements, between water-lily pond and camouflage.
