The presentation of four young artists, Sári Ember, Patrícia Kaliczka, Kata Tranker and Ádám Ulbert, is striking for its stylistic and material diversity, even though these very different positions share something remarkable: whether installation, painting, works on paper or marble masks, all the works engage with the tension between tradition and the present.
The art-historical references and associations bear witness to a shared belief that only through the dreams and visions of yesterday can we gain a deeper understanding of the present and the future. In an ironic as well as subversive way, an independent artistic cosmos emerges – beyond the mainstream and the zeitgeist.
For the first time in many years, young contemporary art from Hungary is being presented as part of a new cooperation between Berlin and Budapest. With this ambitious art project, Dániel Ongjerth of the Eleven Blokk Foundation in Budapest and Professor Klaus Siebenhaar of the Freie Universität Berlin will establish a lasting cultural bridge between Berlin and Budapest.
