These are only some fingerprints

In the exhibition “These are only some fingerprints!” the Chinese artist and philosopher Zou Cao presents works from his series “fingerprints”. The large-format paintings show icons of our time such as Marilyn Monroe, Mao and Madonna, who, almost mythical, represent power and beauty. The artist signs these image motifs with his fingerprint, thereby underlining the tension between identity, originality and the reproducibility of the artwork.

Zou Cao, born in 1975 in Liaoning (China), studied at the School of Fine Arts of Northeast Normal University and gained his doctorate in 2004 at the College of Philosophy and Sociology of Jilin University in Changchun. Numerous exhibitions in China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Korea and Israel followed, as well as a post as lecturer at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. In Germany his work has already been shown in the group exhibition “Chinese Contemporary” in Dresden in 2008.
