Born in Berlin (9 June 1980), she studied from 1998 to 2002 at the Conservatorio di Musica “Luigi Cherubini” in Florence with Kate Gamberucci and Pietro Masi. She completed the postgraduate course “Musica Vocale da Camera” with Leonardo de Lisi in 2005 with distinction. Since 2004 the young artist has been coached by Charlotte Lehmann.
She won the singing competitions “Città di Pistoia” and “Competizione dell’Accademia Musicale Fiorentina” and was a scholarship holder of the “Amici della Musica di Firenze”. Master classes with Bernadette Manca di Nissa, Raina Kabaivanska, Alessandro Corbelli, Rolando Panerai and Charlotte Lehmann complete her training.
Julia Halfar celebrated her debut as “Maddalena” in Verdi’s “Rigoletto” at the summer festival “Luglio Pistoiese”. As a member of the opera studio at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino she sang “Ciesca” in Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi”, alongside Rolando Panerai in the title role. At the Staatstheater Braunschweig, Julia Halfar was heard in Prokofiev’s “The Love for Three Oranges” (“Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen”) in the role of “Princess Linetta”. This summer she sang “Hermia” in Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Frau Reich in Nicolai’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor” (“Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor”) at “Oper auf dem Lande”. In October 2010 she will play Miss Donnithorne at the Hanns Eisler School of Music, in Peter Maxwell Davies’s “Miss Donnithorne’s Maggot” (1974). Julia Halfar is currently a member of the opera studio of the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome.
In the fields of song and oratorio, too, Julia Halfar is now a sought-after singer and can look back on international engagements. Most recently she could be heard, among other places, at Xanten Cathedral in Bach’s Mass in B minor, at the Montecatini summer festival in Wagner’s Wesendonck Songs, and at the conference of the German Schubert Society in a Mozart song recital with Cord Garben at the piano.
Besides her mother tongue (German), she also speaks fluent Italian, French and English.
