The artist:
Wu Xiaohai (b. 1972) is a renowned Chinese artist and professor in the Department of Mural Painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Beijing. Wu Xiaohai’s art is inspired by centuries-old Chinese mural painting and traditional artistic techniques. His elaborate charcoal drawings tell, with gentle irony, of modern myths, of the interplay of hope and optimism, pessimism and despair – of dream and reality, in a rapidly transforming Chinese society. Wu Xiaohai’s works have already won several awards and are part of the collection of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, as well as the FRAC Collection.
In 2008, Beaux Arts Magazine, Paris, named him one of the “Ten Artists of the Future”.
