13 Ways of Looking at a Madman
29 July 2006

This year DaPoPo is appearing with a world premiere: 13 Ways of Looking at a Madman. The play was written by 13 Canadian writers and is performed by 6 actors, based on the obscure figure of “Sandy” Keith Jr., a nineteenth-century Canadian. History has described Keith in many ways: as the nephew of the Nova Scotia brewery magnate Alexander Keith, now known nationwide, as a fraudster, as a Victorian gentleman and family man, an entrepreneur, a petty criminal, an arms dealer and a terrorist. Keith lived in Halifax, later fled to the USA and then to Germany. In 1876 he took his own life and became a myth.
