“Visibility”
Yury Kharchenko
3–30 June 2017

Ladies and gentlemen,
Dear friends of the Stiftung Starke,
we warmly invite you to the opening of the exhibition
Yury Kharchenko
VISIBILITY (“SICHTBARKEIT”)
on 2 June 2017 at 7 pm.
At just 30, Yury Kharchenko has already achieved a great deal in the art world. Between May and June of this year alone, he is preparing for three exhibitions, among them the international exhibition “Luther and the Avant-Garde” (“Luther und Avantgarde”), in which Kharchenko takes part as the youngest participant alongside prominent artists such as Ai Weiwei, Olafur Eliasson, Jonathan Meese, Markus Lüpertz, Stephan Balkenhol, Christian Jankowski and Erwin Wurm.
A German-Russian of Jewish descent, Kharchenko has lived in Germany for 20 years. He can already look back on a sponsored booth at ART COLOGNE, museum acquisitions and numerous museum and gallery exhibitions. Among other things, a solo exhibition at the Felix Nussbaum Haus in Osnabrück is planned for 2018.
Kay Heymer, Head of Modern Art at the Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, writes of Yury Kharchenko’s painting:
“Yury Kharchenko’s painting makes one forget that Pop Art and postmodernism ever existed. His pictures are entirely free of cynicism, and they are not second-hand images. His painting is not that of an epigone. It concentrates on the formal and emotional possibilities of painting. His pictures are both non-representational – pure visual phenomena, like sounds – and representational – they show simple forms such as the houses that form the basic framework of his cycle, or silhouettes of figures that hide in the thicket and undergrowth of the dark lattice frameworks of his pictorial spaces. In their materiality and sense of colour, Yury Kharchenko’s pictures are appealing; they stimulate the senses and so awaken strong feelings in the viewer.”
The exhibition at the Stiftung Starke in the Löwenpalais in Berlin-Grunewald focuses on Kharchenko’s painting. Picture cycles of various sizes, dating from 2006 to 2017, are on show.
Prof. Dr. Klaus Siebenhaar, member of the Board of Trustees of the Stiftung Starke, will introduce the artist’s work.
