“EXCESS – BERLIN” – Francisco TOTEM Perez

Ladies and gentlemen,
Dear friends of the Stiftung Starke,

we warmly invite you to the opening of the exhibition

EXCESS – Berlin (“EXZESS – Berlin”)

by the artist Francisco TOTEM Perez

on Friday, 7 April 2017 at 7 pm

The exhibition EXCESS – Berlin shows a wide variety of works from 2008 to the present and explores the impressions that Berlin, and Kreuzberg in particular, leaves behind day after day: situations, places and experiences. The inhabitants of the big city blend with inspirations and colours from Latin America and give the paintings of Francisco TOTEM Perez their vitality. Most of the paintings are large-scale and are made with acrylic paint, oil pastels and spray cans.
With its architecture and location, the Löwenpalais of the Stiftung Starke is a first-class exhibition venue and places his works in a completely new context.

About the artist:
The Chilean painter Francisco José Perez is known in the Berlin art scene as TOTEM. Originally trained as a stage actor and set designer, he has been based in Kreuzberg since 2002. He lives and works here and has become a fixture of the Wrangelkiez neighbourhood. His studio “Subsuelo” serves as gallery, meeting place and exhibition space all at once.
The range of his art forms is wide. Besides painting, it includes installations, light objects, sculptures and work with recycled materials, as well as large-scale murals in public space. His works have already been exhibited internationally, including in Mexico, France, Spain, Slovenia and Germany.
